Fourteen

Alexis is now 14 years old! Did I really just write a 1 and a 4? How could this be? It is scary how quickly the time is going by. Alexis is such a wonderful young lady. We are so glad she that is in our family and strives to be extra-ordinary. (there is a story behind that statement 🙂 )

For her birthday the three generations went shopping in Idaho Falls (my mom – Grandma Baldwin, Alexis, and me). We decided it would be the perfect day to gather cute items to decorate her room with. We came home with some darling items from TJ Maxx and Ross! Grandma Baldwin bought her a pillow pet – an item off of the top of Lexi's wish list. 🙂 We met Stephen and Grandpa Baldwin up at the University for a birthday lunch date. It is one of Lexi's favorite places to eat in Rexburg. She also finally got to go to the LuLu Bella Boutique she's been wanting to go to. When we got home from all of that we decided to do a quick paint job with chalk board paint in her room. She paid for the paint with the money Grandpa and Grandma Parker gave her. It turned out very cute and has been fun for her to decorate with her own drawings! Stephen helped her cut an old salvaged garage door for a head board. We cleaned and painted it turquoise as well as her desk. By the time the ice cream cake was served it tasted very delicious. When all was said and done I think one of her favorite gifts came from her friend Tanner – a pink Addidas Jabulani Soccer Ball.

The mia maid class from our ward came and kidnapped her the next morning for a welcome breakfast at Sister Hatch's house. We have such great girls in our ward. It is a good place to live and raise kids here in Sugar City.

Alexis has spent most of her summer thus far playing soccer as often as she can with a bunch her high school friends. They are awesome and self motivated to run/bike ride in the mornings and practice soccer for hours in the hot afternoon sun. The high school soccer girls have taken Lex under their wing and have really included her – she loves it and them! They all call her "Parker". She is gearing up for BYU soccer camp in a couple of weeks.

She and Lily have also just started a summer babysitting job. They babysit a family of 4 boys while their mom works at the Farmer's Markets on Friday and Saturdays. Lex gets $4 and hour and Lily gets $1 per hour. This is a great opportunity for them to earn some money and share a memory together- we are excited for them both.

End of Year – Bittersweet

Lex celebrated the end of the school year with a party! Her and friend McKell Hatch decide to give their friend Tanner Puzey a surprise party and one last hoorah before he moved (yesterday) to Idaho Falls. The "party" had a fun time with marshmallow guns, eating burgers, playing "Just Dance", rock climbing, socializing, and mostly playing soccer! Cute kids and fun friends! Tanner has been a great friend to Lexi since he moved here 3 years ago.  It was fun for her to have a friend to lean on when the girl drama unfolded throughout the days of junior high. He has been a good listening ear and loyal & true supporter of her. They have had fun playing soccer, creating music/jamming, and just hanging out while our families bonded.

Young Woman Medallion

Last Sunday I received my young woman medallion. I am so excited! It is gold and has a red ruby in it. I love the young women values and experiences. I am thankful I had the opportunity to earn this and the great things I have learned along the  way. I have enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon and visiting an elderly lady in my ward. I hope I can continue to live these values and habits. I am thankful for the testimony they have given me.

Young Women of the Sugar 6th Ward

Alexis has a great group of Young Women in our ward. We have had 3 exchange students here from Italy, Tailand, & Austria that are about to leave so they gathered to take this photo. They are so sweet. The one from Austria, Susy, genuinely has an interest in the gospel.  It has been neat to see her testimony begin to form from the family she has been with and the examples of the youth in Sugar City.

Proceed with Caution

Warning: This blog errors in the direction of potty mouth talk. Proceed with Caution.

I need to tell 3 stories here.

Story #1 – My niece Emily just got asked to a dance at her school. My sister, Michelle, was telling me how she was asked. It consisted of her answering the door at midnight to discover that they had been toilet papered. She yelled up to Emily and she came down and they noticed a trail of toilet paper extending to the neighbor's yard. At the end of the trail was a puddle of "poop". It looked real and they were freaking out…next to it was a sign that read, "i'll poop my pants if you go to the dance with me." I know, very creative. :! I asked my sister what you are all asking yourselves, "what kind of boy is this? Do you want your dear daughter to go on a date with a potty mouth?" She assured me he was a good boy, so I just had to laugh – especially when she told me that Emily sniffed at the "poo" to discover it was a brownie with caramel sauce. Yum! It may take a while to eat brownies with caramel sauce again very soon… I told Lexi this story because she loves her Emily so, and she couldn't stop laughing. Five minutes after I told her she started giggling again.

Story #2 – I have been nagging Alexis to practice her voice lessons. I have even sent out the ultimatums complete with, "if you don't start practicing better, you will have to pay for your own lessons." Every mom pulls that one out  of her hat right. Well she proved to me that she meant business the next day and remembered to practice as I smiled from the other room on a late night at our house this week.

Story #3 – A few minutes after my smile, I decided to go downstairs and check on everybody in their bedrooms. As I descended the staircase, Mason was ascending and he had a disgusted look on his face as he exclaimed, "JT just pooped on our bedroom floor". I was NOT excited nor happy about this news flash. As I walked toward the bedroom I barely missed the puddle of poop on the family room floor! Apparently the pile wasn't only in his bedroom. When I saw the pile, I saw an opportunity to be silly and turn this tale around. I seized the moment. I told Mason we were going to go get Lexi from upstairs where she was practicing and let her know that JT has something to show her (in a happy and excited voice). We did so, and she came running down the stairs to the surprise. When she got there she noticed the note I had written for JT that said, "Lexi, If you practice your voice lessons I'll poop my pants. love, JT"  When she figured out what was going on she burst out laughing along with the rest of us. I do think JT was more than a little confused – especially when Mason and Lexi made him pose for a picture. I hope this doesn't reinforce a bad behavior. 🙂

Lexi – the fashion gal & photo poser

Lex and I learned how to crochet some cute hats this weekend! We were obsessed and finished last night right before we went to bed.  Aunt Magan came with a cute pattern and gave us the bug. Lexi was so proud of her hat and wore it with pride to school this morning.

Lexi and Bridget had multiple photo sessions as well as some spontaneous shots this past Thanksgiving weekend. Lex & Bridget like to pose and had some cute shots. Thought I'd document them here. They are the funniest girls when you get them together – a little crazy too!

Mindy Gledhill

Last night my mom, Sister Puzey, Ashlyn, and I had the opportunity to se a Mindy Gledhill concert. It was a blast! She signed Ashlyn and my arm. And we met her and got pictures with her. If you check her blog she might have posted a picture of us.(we made her phone)You should all download her album "Anchor" on iTunes. Here are a few of our favorites!

Thursday with Lexi

Playing it cool – she was not one of those giddy girls

We were eating at Bajio Thursday night in celebration of Alexis finishing the Book of Mormon for the first time! We (Stephen & I) are proud of her for her dedication and determination to finishing before girls’ camp – a goal given to the girls last year. It was neat to hear her thoughts and watch her excitement.

Alexis was able to go to the book signing of David Archuletta that night as well. Here is the proof! While we were seated we peered out the door and noticed the long line that was forming to the Deseret Book entrance…it was getting even longer. I was all but ready to go home, but Lex was totally stoked (I think she definitely inherited the Parker genes in this respect). She had been pumped up earlier from Baldwin cousin, Ashley, and was entirely committed to seeing David.

It was good we spotted her friends near the front of the line. We dropped her off with them and then waited in the car until they got into the store. We were the official photographers.

Alexis also participated in the Hershey Track and Field Meet, she even qualified for state with the softball throw!

Today we dropped her off for her second year of Girl’s camp! We already miss her lively & fun personality around here!

I know he is smiling because he thinks she is soooo cute 😉

Wow-You got pretty close up to David. I think my girls are going to be quite jealous. Maybe I won’t tell them. Good job with the Book of Mormon-you are a great example.
