Violin Duet

Today Alexis and I played a violin duet in sacrament meeting. We played “Come Follow Me” and “Love at Home”. Alexis did a super job! She has really great tone when she plays and she got all of the notes right in tune. It was a real treat to stand up there next to her and perform. This experience was by far one of my favorite things I’ve ever done with Alexis. I really love music a lot – I may not be the best that I would like to be, but it makes my heart happy. I hope Alexis will be able to experience some of the same feelings with music that I have. She is certainly on the right track.

I’ll say this much – I would not have consented to playing in church if she wasn’t standing there next to me. I have become too intimidated and self-defeating for exposing myself with public violin playing. I’ve taken too many years off and it’s not like riding a bike! So, thanks Alexis for making me get out of my comfort zone and trying – I did it all for you because I want you to be better than me!

Tah Tah, My Love!

See ya later old friend….my mom surprised me and took me to get my cast off earlier than I was supposed to. My friend, Ashton, was having a swimming birthday party Friday night so my mom called the doctor and I got to get my cast off just in time (5 days early)! I told my mom that I had a tan when they took it off, she said it was just caked on dirt – it is a bunch of dead skin waiting to come off. Gross! It feels weird having it off, but I am very happy. When I threw it in the garbage at the doctor’s office I was a little sad because it had been a part of me for 6 weeks and I really liked the attention!

See and need, fill a need

This morning Alexis took on the challenge to make breakfast. She whipped out some eggs and bacon and made us quite a nice little breakfast. She even topped them with a little cheese as a garnish. Coolest part is that she was not even asked to make breakfast, “See and need, fill a need.” Thanks Alexis it was great!

That’s a good sign of maturity and thoughtfulness when we do something good without even being asked. Kind of reminds me of a great seminary scripture mastery scripture. See D&C 58:26-29. In fact, I guess we all have to get to be that way in order become what we are supposed to become here on Earth.
Good example, Alexis!

Seriously in Sixth Grade

Today was my first day of sixth grade! It was fun and I didn’t want it to end. My homeroom teacher is Mrs. Loosli (for Math). I get to go to different teachers for each subject. I go to Mrs. Presler for Language, and Mr. Garner for Science and Social Studies, he is funny. I go to Mrs. Daniels for Reading. Switching classes was my favorite part of the day and it makes the day go by faster. Instead of having study hall I get to do Orchestra. I told my mom I would try it out for one semester and see how I like it.

My classroom is by the lunchroom and it smelled good all morning. It was fun to see my friends again. Christina even cut her hair – it is so cute! Tomorrow I am bringing my marker so that everyone can sign my cast.

My goal for this year is to become prepared for Jr. High.

So far, So good!

Ferocious Snails

Unfortunately Alexis won’t ever get to tell us how fun soccer was this year. She has been watching from the sidelines with a broken arm. The day she broke her arm was on a Sunday. As we were pulling into the driveway that day she started clapping her hands in the back seat with a gigantic smile on her face declaring that her first soccer game was Tuesday! She had a couple of practices and was having such a good time. Then the broken arm incident occurred.

She received bad new this past week that she wouldn’t be able to play for 4 more weeks. Well, soccer will be over by then. She was very disappointed and close to tears – remember she didn’t even cry when she broke her arm! She sat in for the picture of her team the “Ferocious Snails” this past week on the day she got the news. The team is made up of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders! Next year can’t come soon enough now.

Lex and I decided to plan something really fun for the day that her cast comes off – hopefully this will help lessen the disappointment of not playing soccer this year. She is a good girl.

ER

Today my dad was taking pictures of me doing round off back hand springs after Sunday dinner. On the fifth or sixth time I did it, I landed really WRONG. I ended up breaking both bones in my left arm. It was dipped and very gross. My mom was freaking out and my dad was trying to take pictures of it.

We drove to the ER and they gave me an IV with pain killer, took my xray, and popped my arm back into place. It HURT, but I didn’t cry. My mom and the nurse and doctor were said I am tough. I guess I’ll have to take a “break” from gymnastics, soccer, and piano! I am disappointed about the gymnastics and especially soccer. My first game is this Tuesday! Maybe in a few weeks I can go be in a game? Good Luck Riley. Guess I’ll be a cheerleader without the stunts.

I broke my arm doing a back flip on a mini-tramp and the doctor set it wrong so I ended up having an ulnarstyloidectomy ( I only have one bone going into my wrist. It is nice to have documented truth of how tough you are. You can show those pictures to your kids if they get wimpy. You certainly are not a wimp. We love you and hope everything goes well.

Lemonade Stand

Yesterday me and my friend Lacey had a lemonade stand at the park by her grandma’s house. We made $3.35, but we only really made $.25 from a lady that was looking for an address and needed our help finding it. The other money came from Lacey’s aunt, her friend’s family, and my family when they came to pick me up.

I was so excited to finally do a lemonade stand. I have wanted to do one since I was like 6 years old and it was so much fun! I can’t wait to do it again.

American Girls

Wednesday night, July 2, was a big day for American Girl Doll lovers! The new movie Kit Kittredge opened in theaters. Alexis reminded us about it often (she has the Kit doll and was extra excited) and we invited our friends from Idaho Falls to join us for a girls night out. My girls were so happy to get their dolls dressed and ready for the big event.

Lex of course took Kit, Lily took Emma and Ella and Livvy got to hold Ella if she was nice – we couldn’t find Dolly. When we got to the theater a man came up to me and asked, “What’s with all of these dolls?” I explained and he just shook his head. It was a very cute movie and the girls and their dolls loved it. After the movie we had ice cream at Leatherbys. We even saw cousin Robin Staker with her girls, Ashlyn and Kali with their friends and of course their dolls!

Party with Music

As many of you know, Alexis is the star DJ at our house and car. (In fact she has considered making it a profession some day) She is often found twirling through my ipod in search of a great song to listen to. Well, it was time for her annual summer late over last Friday night. After tossing a few ideas around a music party stuck and we began our planning.

She helped make the invitations and we delivered them. They were instructed to bring two of their favorite CDs and a treat to share with everyone. It ended up being a very fun night. She had friends, Christina, Shaylynn, Kendra, Kaydee, Maddi, Emi, and Paige. They made their own pizza bombs which turned out to be gigantic. We then played a few games. Music Charades was they had to act out the name of a song…They put the name of an animal in a bowl and then took turns drawing one out and making up a dance to that animal…and of course we played name that tune and had a lip sync. Favorite songs of the night were, “Bubbly” by Colbie Caillat, “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles, and “Picture to Burn” by Taylor Swift, “With You” by Chris Brown, and “See You Again” by Miley Cyrus.

After the food and games, they watched the premier of “Camp Rock” on the Disney Channel, starring the singing Jonas Brothers. It was a hit as many of the girls really like the Jonas Brothers.

It ended up being a really fun night for the girls and stress free night for the mom. Eleven year olds are so fun, they think anything is great as long as they are together and they are also old enough to keep their own games going! Love it!!!
