Silly Lily Strikes Again

She must take after her mother! Chocolate cookies for breakfast – at leat they are waffles, right?Alexis invited a couple of friends over the other night for a late over. They were going to make waffle cookies and Lily was excited to eat one. I was excited to get Olivia to bed, so I asked Lily if she would fake sleep for me so Olivia would go to sleep. I told her I would come and get her when the cookies were finished. (I also added that if she accidentally fell asleep I would save some for her)

Well Alexis and friends got distracted with other things and I went on a cleaning frenzy – before we knew it, it was 9:50 pm. I whipped out the cookies really quick and Stephen reported that Lily was asleep. True to my word, I packaged up some cookies in a baggy just for Lil.

In the darkness of the middle of the night I hear noises coming from in front of me – It was an upset Lily. I acknowledged her and she said, “I am awake and I want my cookies”. She was feeling frustrated and she made it come across that she had been awake the entire time! I had a little snicker of a smile on my face, she is sooo funny. I checked the time – it was 3:00 am. I told her it was the middle of the night and I wasn’t going to go get her cookies for her, but she could go eat them if she wanted to. She stood there in frustration, then finally consented to lay by me for the rest of the night while she waited for her cookies.

First thing she did when she popped open her eyes, was find her cookies. I guess it was worth the wait – she seemed pretty happy!

Never, never, never give up. Good things happen to those who discover something good and never give it up. Stubbornness is not all bad. Lili is going to be a miracle worker and wonderful blessing to us all; even more than she now is.

Dead Meat

Lily has been insistent about wearing her tennis shoes to school each day. She said she needs them so she can run fast to chase the boys. Watch out boys, she is a fast runner! She usually comes home with a report each day for me, once I asked what she does when she catches the boys. She said, “They are dead meat!” Basically the girls catch the boys and say, “You’re dead meat” and then they are released to be chased again.

Sounds like great exercise and a fun social activity. We ought to do it at our next family social. It would be a fun change of pace.

Orange Crushes

Lily joined soccer again this year. The Sunday before soccer began I was fixing Lily’s hair when she told me “it’s time for me to be getting serious.” I wondered what she meant and she explained that she needed to get serious about playing soccer because her first game was on Tuesday.

True to her word, she has taken it serious. She has had a successful couple of weeks – even scoring a few goals! This is a big turn around from last year’s attitude when she just wanted treats and the cool shirt. We are proud of our little “Orange Crush”. (team name)

Her soccer coach is Brian Howard – same as last year. She loves being on the same team as Grace and Gretta Michaelson, Sam Howard and of course cousin Taylor Ricks!

Musical Play

Yesterday Lily had her friend Oakley over…they had some fun in the water. I had to smile when I heard Lily over playing on the swing set breaking out in song. It was as if she were the star in a musical. She was singing to Olivia, “Dingle, dingle, dum. Twist all day and twist all night, why don’t you go down the slide? etc…” Sung to her own made up tune. She proceeded to sing her way through talking for the next 30 minutes. Oakley watched and listened for a second and then before too long, she was chiming in. Fun times!

Oxymoron

Yesterday my dad, Mason, Lex, and Lily hiked up the “Y” here in Provo, UT. It is actually quite a steep little climb, but not too long. It was extra special to have my dad there with us. He helped Mason make trail mix and we all wore a whistle after learning about hikes in the Cub Scout Bear Handbook. With every step we were thinking about how fun it was going to be coming down. The view of Provo was awesome once we reached the top and I was a proud mamma/daughter of my little children and dad. We passed college age guys who were even wondering “how much farther?”. By the way, Lily climbed this one for her dad. She is very excited to tell him that she did it all by herself. Last year she climbed it with Stephen and he had to carry her a little.

We had a great climb with minimal complaints and on the way down I set a goal for myself to be down by 3:00. I began running with Lily and Lex. Well, while Lexi was picking up momentum she must have swung her arms out and accidently hit Lily. Lily was not happy, she thought Alexis purposely hit her and began having a serious melt down. This happened at 2:55 and we still had a ways to get to the bottom. I tried to be nice and rationalize with her for a few minutes to no avail. I explained my goal and tried to distract her into the same goal. She wasn’t buying it. I then said, “If you can’t get in control you can wait here by the side of the road for Grandpa and Mason.” The tantrum escalated and she ran after me, still crying loudly.

Then, it happened. I lost control (10 days without dad around can do that to a mother with five children). As I was running down the mountain, I kicked Lily’s rear of steel with my left foot. It hurt, but I kept on running and yes I made my 3:00 goal. She kept on crying until we reached the car and then Grandma and cousins helped her forget about her recent woes. When I stopped running, I noticed that the toe next to my big one hurt even more and coninued to keep throbbing worse as the night progressed.

I think it is broken or at least severely sprained. Now everytime I take a step I get to remind myself to be more patient. As for Lily, apparently it didn’t leave a mark on her, because I asked how her bumb was and she looked at me with a puzzled look. I guess it was my turn to learn a lesson.

Kindergarten Graduation 2008

Lily, the kindergartner 2007-2008!Last night Lily had a Kindergarten program to celebrate her graduation! We are so proud of her and how much she has learned this year. Not only has she gotten intellectually smarter (i.e. reading, math, etc.) she has grown socially and emotionally. She is a sweet little girl and wow did she give it her all during that program – she sang her little heart out and wasn’t timid about it, she remembered all of the dance steps and could do “Toe Knee Knows” fast as lighting! Lexi made her a banner that read, “We are ‘Toad’ally proud of you Lily. You’re a star!” It was cute. After the program we came home and ate sherbet the frog, Lily had fun helping make the treat for her family. What a happy day to celebrate Lily’s achievement.

Spice Girl

Lily is a lover of SALT! She is always wondering where the salt is when a meal is served, and let me tell you she is very generous when she is shaking it. The other day I found her shaking Garlic Salt onto her bowl of microwave popcorn … she is branching out a bit! I’ve decided that her and Stephen go together well – he has a hand on the pepper while she is reaching for the salt. I also must mention that some of her favorite foods are french fries and potato chips. We are definitely going to keep our eye on her – we don’t want her going into cardiac arrest, especially at a young age! She did inform me tonight that celery is her favorite vegetable and she just can’t eat enough of it, sounded like a good direction to steer her in. Gotta “dash”….
