Teddy Bear "T" Party

It is party time at our house this week! Olivia had a Teddy Bear “T” Party on Wednesday for Playgroup. We were celebrating her “Un” birthday. We didn’t have play group when it was her birthday so we opted for the un-birthday thing. (Obviously I wasn’t thinking about everything else)

BUT

It was lots of fun. She looked so cute in her “T” party outfit and I had lots of fun listening to them talk about their “Stinky” dads. I heard a few secrets leak out of the bag about dad’s tooting and blaming the little girls – it cracked me up! It all spiraled out after a little friend said her dad calls “Tinkerbell”, “Stinkerbell”.

I got a little carried away making teddy bear travel bags filled with “t” items. That is one part of being a mom that I love! It was fun to see the little girls carrying them around to play with their teddy bears – totally worth all of the work! We also played pin the heart on the teddy bear.

What a fun party with 3 and 4 year olds. I think I like playgroup as much as Olivia!

Never has princess Olivia looked more like a real princess. Little girls are such a wondrous creation. Way to capture the moment and help little ladies feel like they’re somebody.

Too tired to care

Sometimes you just have to sleep no matter what the circumstances…

Olivia is very mindful of the days of the week. In fact, last week she continued asking me which day is was so often that I stopped and taught her the song of the days of the week. She can now figure out which day we are on or which day is coming up. It is pretty funny to listen to her prayers as she drops what day it will be tomorrow. For instance she said in today’s dinner prayer, “I hope we can have a good day tomorrow on Monday…”

She is also a member of the Sunbeam class and absolutely loves her teachers. When her teacher Brother Muir, got up to bear his testimony today, she got so excited. I am grateful for loving Primary teachers!

It’s good to always be learning new things. Olivia is like sponge that way, she loves to know things. We are thankful for Primary too. Yesterday Alexandre bore his testimony without a paper, his dad writes down the words and he reads his testimony. But it was great to see him speak from his heart. Primary is great.

A side of whiskers

The other day I was getting ready to fix Olivia’s hair before we dashed out of the door. She had eaten a piece of toast for breakfast with raspberry jam. Apparently she really liked it because she had a jam mustache that had glued some of her hair to her face. When I started pulling it back into a pony tail, the hairs pulled right out of her head and dangled down off of her cheek. It really made me giggle. I told her I had to run and get the camera…by the time I got back she was giggling right along with me. It is fun to be a mom on days like this!

Worth the wait

excited about the matching skirt that I made for her and sistersOlivia had a hard time NOT wanting to see what was under all of the wrapping paper if you remember, but the day finally came and she was happy. She was as excited for her baby brother JT and his presents as she was to get her own. Santa brought her a karaoke barbie head – she can fix her hair and sing with her too. It was fun for her to have Lily and Lexi get their dolls out and have a hair fixing party while they watched movies.

Olivia especially loved having her Grandpa and Grandma here. She had fun tagging a long after either of them wherever they were. Grandma was really excited about going out to the Burton Christmas Dance again this year. Olivia had mixed feelings when Santa Clause came into the room. She would NOT sit on his lap, but she did decide to take the bag of treats. When I asked her if she wanted Santa to bring her a present, she said “NO”. I think she’s glad he did now though.

Playing in the snow is short lived at age 3. It takes us more time to get her dressed than she enjoys being outside, but I think that is pretty normal. I have fun having company while I make the hot chocolate! 🙂

playing her “duet” with friend, Ellie.

so excited for JT

this is as close as Olivia wanted to get to Santa

slumber parties are always fun – she ended up sleeping in Mason’s bed with him.

It’s quiet …you better come find me!

I was on the phone talking Primary talk last week when I accidentally walked passed the Piano Room in our house. There I found a happy three year old in the middle of wrapping paper and playing with her Polly Pocket that Mason had just wrapped up for her a couple of nights previous. Luckily I was the first to encounter her and quickly retrieved the newly unwrapped gifts to go and re wrap without any more notice. We have since had a discussion about why we wait until Christmas to open gifts, but for one small moment Olivia was living the high life.

If you were able to communicate why not open presents early to a curious three-year old, you are a great teacher. We had to smile at the whole thing. She is a crack-up. Give her a hug from us.

When Bridget was about three, I walked downstairs to see no presents under the Christmas tree. After looking throughout the house, I discovered them on Bridget’s bed all lined up. She had taken every one up into her bedroom. Funny girl.

It’s official

We started potty training one year ago and I’m happy to report that Olivia is officially a “Big Girl!” We’ve had a good couple of months with only 1 or 2 accidents! It has been a tricky year, but once SHE decided it was what SHE needed to do for herself – she has not regressed. She is even staying dry at nights. One of the biggest motivations was getting to go spend the week at Dana’s house. (One of my friends was going to watch Olivia when we went to Portugal – she is extremely disappointed that she isn’t going to get to go now!) I am just grateful that we had some form of inspiration, because I was down to my last rope. I am so happy and proud of Olivia – she really is amazing when she’s determined!

Just one more kid to go…argh!

Good job Olivia, that will be a big help to your mom now. It reminds us of her dad, when he made up his mind to do something there was no stopping him, (maybe that is still true,) but that can be a really good trait. Big girls can do more fun things too.

I have two Grandma Baldwins

We stopped by to visit my Grandma Baldwin yesterday. My kids call her Grandma Gussy, so when I started calling her Grandma Baldwin Olivia was confused. I explained to her that this was her Great Grandma Baldwin. She had it all figured out and interrupted my explanation with “You mean I have two Grandma Baldwins?” I said, “yes you do”.

She asked Grandma what her favorite color was – Grandma said, “purple”. We then asked if Olivia could sing her a song. When we started singing Grandma joined in…it was a special moment. I love my Grandma – it is hard for her to get older. She takes it in stride, but a few of her comments suggest that she is more than inconvenienced with this part of life. She has been loosing her memory somewhat. She asked me how many kids I had three times. The last time she asked, when I told her 5 – she said “Oh, you lucky girl!” I thought to myself – You’re right!

Darling Duo

I caught these two little darlings going to town the other morning – they were giving a concert. Olivia was very proud of this and anxious to invite all who would come to listen to hear her music. She loves to play with Lily and have the attention of a big sister. She has been so happy to have her favorite friends home for the past week during Harvest Break.

Olivia likes to go around the house humming or doo daaing songs. My favorite is when she sings “dun, dun, dun, du-dun, dun, du-dun, dun:” to the beat of the Coldplay song “Viva la Vida”. She loves to hear music in the car as well. Her top request is the “La La La” song – “I’m a New Soul…”. And you can’t beat a three year old singing “Too Cool” from “Camp Rock”.

Oh, the wondrous magic of little girls. Don’t plan on Mason and JT playing music together. But watch out for increased snake collecting and inspection of perfectly good mechanical objects.

That is too fun, I remember putting on concerts all the time back in the day most of the time I would lip sync to Madonna or Cyndi Launder, but it was still the highlights of my youth concerts in the backyard with my sisters…good memories. Keep making em!

Where’s mine dad?

Olivia wanted to know where her computer was as she watched Stephen work the other day. He gave her an old one to feel like she was cool.

She loved it, she didn’t want me to log in for her, because she liked hearing it beep at her when she typed the wrong password. I think she thought it was her cash register because she kept selling me pages from her coloring book.
