Big Sister

Olivia is enjoying her role as a big sister. She thinks it is cool to be like Lily and Alexis. She is willing and eager to help with every task involved in helping Joshua Taylor (that is what she calls him) – even if it is a stinky diaper! Whenever she walks by him she gives him a “tiss” on the head or feet. This morning I was trying to sneak some extra sleep in when I heard Lily and her enter my room. I heard her tell Lily not to touch him (he was asleep) because mom doesn’t want us too! She is a great protector and when she wants to hold him she is always willing to wash her hands. We are proud of her and glad she is in our family.

The Only Thing Better Than Hairspary, That’s Me!

We have a ritual daily request from Olivia after breakfast these days. As soon as the older kids leave for the bus and the counter is cleaned up from breakfast a little voice comes over to me and says, “I wanna listen to ‘Hairsray’.” I usually always indulge this pleasure as it is just as fun for me to listen to the soundtrack. I sit at the computer and scrapbook and Olivia (Lily often joins in)walks around and around the kitchen table for the entire soundtrack to finish (o.k. we do veto a few of the songs because of bad lyrics). Today Lily kicked things up a notch and made a Hairspray Walk. They drew pictures and placed them around the table and asked me to stop the music randomly. Pretty fun morning fun.

See a need, fill a need

Olivia just out the blue grabbed the broom and dust pan and began sweeping the kitchen floor. I was so impressed I had to grab the camera and snap a shot or two of it. She is such a fun little girl, she makes me smile 1000 times a day.

some hip pants there

More is caught than is taught. You’re a good example, so she finds joy in what you do. Onward and upward.

It’s Potty Time!

We have spent the past week diligently trying to teach Olivia about Potty Training Basics! It really helps that we have 5 people on potty patrol. When Olivia goes, whoever takes her gets a treat too! She is doing really well, it seems she can pee on demand. In fact she has even been staying dry at night! We even experienced our first “plop” a few minutes ago. Olivia got the “shining star student” award last night when I asked her to go put a pull-up and pajamas on. She said, “And go potty too?” I said, “YES!” (I almost forgot) She came and told me she was finished a few minutes later. To my delight, she had gone to the bathroom, put her pull-up on, put some p.j.s on, and even dumped her “potty” into the big toilet and then rinsed out her little toilet! Can you say, RESPONSIBILITY?

We have had a few mishaps, but nothing too major! Just thought I’d share in some of our positive highlights.

Midnight Snack

She is only 2 but she has quite the setup going. Drink, Chocolate, and a Mint, at least she is finally asleep.Case and Point. Tonight after we had put all the kids to bed, while Jodi was busy writing the previous blog. We could hear some noises coming from the kitchen. When I went to investigate I found the trail of clues. First I noticed the kitchen light was on, then I noticed Olivia’s chair had been slid over to the treat drawer. I then went downstairs and saw the site of all sites. There was Olivia in her bed again, laying on her pillow munching on the 1 Pound Candy Bar Grandpa Baldwin had given her earlier today. She had already eaten about 1/2 of it. I took away the remains and helped her wash her hands, then put her down again. A few minutes later she was back up in the kitchen same game plan again. Notice how much is left, it was a full bar 15 minutes ago. I had to take a picture as evidence of her plot. What a little Nut.

Candy, Candy, Candy

I think Olivia’s favorite part of Christmas is all of the Candy! She just can’t seem to get enough of it, and she has been staying up well until 11:00- 12:00 pm every night. I think candy is her fuel. She has been playing with the toy Mason gave her for Christmas when she can break away from the candy. He gave her a Leap Frog Caterpillar that says the letter names, sounds, and plays music. My friend Dana was over a couple of days ago, and Olivia was showing her the caterpillar. Dana tested her knowledge by asking her where random letters were, and to our astonishment she knew at least half of them! I am a definite believer in the Leap Frog products now. Olivia was so excited to talk about Santa Claus and sing about him, but when the time came to sit on Santa’s lap – she was a nervous Nelly. We got her to pose for a picture only because Lex was sitting there with her. It has been fun to listen to Olivia sing “Santa Claus is coming to town,” and her favorite, “Jingle Bells.”

What a gal!

This pic made Stephen’s day…the little pursed up lips reaching to get a swallow of water. This little girl is at a fun age! Just check out the photos to see what we experience with her around. How lucky are we?

Just getting ready for family prayer.

What’s wrong with this picture?

New american idol.

Thankful for food.

It can be tiring trying to entertain us all of the time.

The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round

Here are some recent photos of Olivia watching and waiting for the bus. It is a big moment for her twice a day! In the morning, just after breakfast she runs to the window to see if the bus is coming. This morning Stephen caught a classic shot of her standing on the baseboard peering out to see. When she spotted it she declared, “Mommy, da bus is toming, it’s toming, it’s toming!” She must always tell somebody if she has seen the big yellow bus. She also likes waiting for the bus to come home to deliver all of her favorite playmates. Sometimes she’ll even run down the lane to meet up with them all.

That is the cutest thing. I can’t believe Stephen hasn’t made her a bus watching stool. Parker loves the bus too. Here in Vancouver they won’t let the kids off unless a parent is there to pick them up. It represents two walks in the stroller. These little one sure look up to their siblings. I love them too.
