We will miss President Hinckley

We heard tonight of the passing of our beloved prophet, President Hinckley. He was a great example of how to live life and live it well. He was kind to all he met and always had something funny to say. A great man never to be forgotten. Play the movie to hear his strong testimony.

Home can be a heaven on earth!

Today as Mason and I were doing dishes, we could hear Jodi playing the piano and singing beautiful church songs. I was thinking to myself I sure do enjoy it when she plays and sings. Within seconds Mason said what I had been thinking, He said, “I love it when mom plays the piano like that on Sunday”. Needless to say I was touched and felt for a small moment that I was given a glimpse of heaven here on earth in my own home. I told Mason he should tell Mom how he feels…so yes Home can be a heaven on earth!

Fast yet simple worm

Today was a sad day for AMX’rs, we were hit by a simple teaser instant message worm. It was sad to see how many took the bait, over half of our 250 employees clicked the link and installed the worm. Even after 3 security warnings…simply crazy. This was not on my schedule to have over 500 emails, 30 phone calls, and several IM’s in just a few minutes. I think I may have to start sending out fake worms monthly to get them used to saying “no”. If it looks phishy then it’s most likely a hook.

You know what they say. The early bird gets the worm. Thanks for the fishing pointer. We will try to learn to just say no. It does help keep your job secure. Lots of work.

-25F = No School

Today the kids woke to the great news of no school. The temperature was -25F plus a wind chill that took it down to around -32F now that is a bit nippy. The kids loved doing finger painting and just lounging around all day. It was so cold that my tractor wouldn’t even start to plow the driveway. I am heating the shop now to see if that will help. As I write this it is down to -4F already so it may be another easy going day for the kids tomorrow.

It’s Pearl Time

I finally broke down and purchased a “BlackBerry” the Pearl to be exact. I tried out the XV 6800 but couldn’t get used to the sliding keyboard. Too many days on a Treo I guess. I am still holding out for the Treo 800W which is due in a few weeks. Until then I am enjoying this little Pearl. It is a whole different game than what I am used to, but seems pretty intuitive. Mason seems to love it because of all the games you can get for it.

A Mass of Volunteers

What a neat experience. I was able to participate in the Rexburg Temple Open house volunteer program tonight. It starts with a little mtg where they assign us all to our stations, there were probably over 100 of us. I was assigned to help in the Stake Center, where the tour starts. It was fun to see all the excitement in the visitors eyes. It was amazing how well it was planned out, to have over 10,000 people a day come through and in a nice orderly fashion. I saw quite a few old friends come though which made it even more fun. All the volunteers work at least a 5 hour shift. I thought by being inside I would be plenty warm, boy was I mistaken. With temperatures in reaching -16 F with wind chill, every time they opened the door for the next group coming or going it sent a shot of frigid air right down the hall where I was directing people as they exited the cookies and punch station. Needless to say I was frozen by pretty quick standing there in my white shirt and tie. It reminded me of a never ending wedding reception. I started at 4:45 PM and the last group for the night came through around 11:00 PM. As long as people are there they keep letting them enter. Quite a volunteer effort to say the least. I am glad I was there to participate in the excitement.
