Description:
This flier, in black and white, is meant to publicize an upcoming Graduate Leadership Conference.
Process:
The first process in designing this project consisted of sketching 4 different layouts options. After selecting which sketch portrayed the focused message and appealed to the audience I began creating the design in Adobe InDesign. I used square and rectangular boxes which were specifically organized and colored to create good flow and contrast. I chose to insert the image inside of a circle to create a spontaneous, yet memorable focal point. In the focal point text my professor suggested using a drop shadow, which I did, and I was happy with the result of how it entered into the image while keeping the line proximity in check with other letters in the word. The typography, varied in weight and size, helped create interest and dimension. I was careful to use good alignment. My overall objective was to create an obvious contrasting focal point with supporting flow into the important details such as Date, Time, Place and website.
Message:
My message is that a Graduate Leadership Conference is happening. My target audience are graduates: why they should consider coming, how to register, and most importantly how the conference can make them more marketable.
Audience:
Graduating Seniors, the majority in their twenties.
Top thing learned:
I learned the importance of tracking, kerning, leading, and how it plays into alignment.

Jody- Nicely done! I love the gestalt of this flier. The DTP looks amazing. It shows how much hard work was put into this. I love how the G in Graduate overlaps the image. I also like the use of the circular image. I also like the kerning and tracking methods that you used in the section that says “space is limited” I also completed my flier. Jody! I really like your flier. There is great contrast that really draws my eyes to your focal point and then in a smooth flow. The fonts that you use complement each other well and fit the message of the flier. I think the way you used the picture is creative and clever. His eyes drew you to the title. Jodi, I absolutely loved your flier! The overall gestalt is great! First, I loved the photo you chose; It is a great focal point and the circle shape is clean and eyecatching. His eyes make us look straight to the title, and started the flow in a creative way! Secondly,I loved your use of white space because it is clean and orderly. Lastly, your use of contrast is great! I like how you used black, white and grey and still had plenty of contrast. Sometimes use of all three can seem muddled, but your white space makes each box look great! Overall, great job!
Also, Alisha Becker did a great flier. Here is her link.

Great flyer! I love how you’ve broken out of the grid with the photo and the title. I do think that the drop shadow is a bit much though. Otherwise, I think your flyer looks really unique and has great flow.
