What fun little girl

Lily finally made it, she wouldn’t accept that she was 8 years old until 3:24PM today.  We were talking with Bishop Hymas and he asked her if she was 8 now, an she replied nope not until 3:24 PM.  I thought to myself she is pretty set on being 100% honest, and good for her.  She is set for her baptism date of Dec 5 and she so excited, I wish I could capture her spirit and share it here.  She can be heard often playing "When Jesus Christ was Baptized" on the piano, and adding little twists to it to jazz it up a bit.  I love it you can hear her excitement as she plays and smiles.

Jodi held a great birthday party for her with a long list of her closest friends.  She even invited one boy :-).  They each made their own little dish of Lasagna, baked it and ate it.  The house was like having 10 blenders and vacuums on at once, 10 little girls and one little boy can get pretty giggly and loud.  I would call it Chaos when I was trying to lead them in a game.  They had fun and that is the important part,

This morning Lily woke up happy and excited again, she opened the gifts from her siblings and Mom and Dad, she was a real treat to watch.  She was so excited when she opened each gift, but I think the Scriptures from Mom and Dad took the cake.  To top it all off Grandma and Grandpa Parker came to church with us today to see Lex give her first talk in sacrament meeting and to help babysit as Jodi and I sang in the ward choir.  Lex did a great job, but we will have to hear more from her on that.

Lily was able to Skype Grandma and Grandpa Baldwin this evening and she gave them about a 30 minute concert on the piano of all the songs she is learning.  She received a piano book from her birthday from Grandma Baldwin (via Jodi from the BYUI bookstore ask Jodi how the CTR ring fit Lily sometime) and within minutes she had learned a new song out of it.  She really loves to play the piano and to play on it.

We are all excited for her to be baptized in couple weeks, to make her a baptized member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She will be a great addition to the fold.

Big Surprise!

Last night Stephen offered to go out to my Uncle Morgan’s house to help him with a computer problem. As we were talking earlier in the day, I remembered my mom once mentioning that Morgan has an ear piercing gun and earrings. Since Lily is only 2 weeks away from turning 8 (and the rule at our house for girl’s getting their ears pierced is 8), Stephen and I decided to call and ask Morgan if it was a possibility to have him do this while we were out there. He said yes and we decided to wait to tell Lily until we were in the moment at his house – for a surprise.

We ate dinner before going out to Burton, and during dinner Lily began talking about how excited she was for her 8th birthday. Number one she would be getting baptized and number 2 she would finally be able to get her ears pierced. Inside I was sooo excited because I knew what was about to happen.

We went out to my Uncle’s house and talked with Linda and Mandell (my cousin) while Stephen worked on computers. Mandell was a big hit because he taught Lex and Mason how to make a ring out of a dollar bill. He also had a minpin dog (mini Doberman pincher) that was making life exciting for me and Olivia and JT. Then the time came and to break the exciting news, I said, "Lily today is your lucky day". She looked puzzled and then I said, "You get to get your ears pierced right now!" To say she was excited is an understatement.

Mandell did the honors and unfortunately we had a couple of malfunctions – the gun wouldn’t come away from her ear after shooting the earring through. So he had to pull the earring out and then reinsert it by hand (on both ears). For those of you who know Lily, you will be as impressed as we were. She did NOT even shed one tear NOR did she scream or wince. She was very brave – the EXCITEMENT won out over the technicalities! I am so grateful Lexi was there to keep her focused and excited with me. She offered to hold her hand and was almost as excited as Lily. Uncle Morgan pulled out one of his giant boxes of full size candy bars and told Lily she deserved one – her eyes were wide and full of thrills. Mandell felt bad about the malfunctions and said he was going to have to give her something special too. He pulled out a very fancy heart necklace. WOW – Lily definitely felt special. Stephen and I are still in shock that she handled it all so well. It goes to show that if Lily has her mind made up about something she is committed.

The evening was a memory we will always remember!

Insane Drama

So tonight I was innocently canning tomatoes when Lily walked into the kitchen and told me about a song she had just written. A song she was quik to add was just a joke. She asked if I wanted to hear it, of course I did. She began singing the following words (which she had written down on a paper) to the tune of "Renegade" by Styxx.

"Oh mamma I’m in sain with you’e drama and I cant keep up with you. Please mama stop the dramaaaaa because I can’t keep up with you. Oh mama Im in sain with your drama and I cant keep up with you".

O.k. first of all it is seriously hilarious! I can’t deny the reality of that song sadly, which makes it all the more funny. She is feeling a little self conscience about it because I laughed so much, although I reassured her it was because it was such a funny joke. It just makes me smile – where did that come from? Who’s hat did she pull that one out of? I don’t even remember listening to that song recently and to add the words she used to that tune was genius! I think she could have a no.1 hit with that one!

Random funnies make being a mom so enjoyable.

Kicking Cousins

Taylor and Lily were on the same soccer team again this year and Stephen was thier coach. The were fun to watch. Most of the time they were little speed demons and ball kickers, but a few times i would catch them chatting or holding hands – so cute! The had a good team and won most of their games. We learned this year that water bottles are very important!

Level 3

Lily has been in swimming lessons the past 2 weeks. I guessed the wrong skill level for her and put her in the level 3 class – she should have been in level 2. She took at the college where she cannot touch at all. She tried her best the frst day to keep up with the level 3 class but is just wasn’t happening. Toward the end of the class her teacher and I talked and got her to the right skill level. On the way home I asked how she was going to like swimming. She said, "Mom, they are trying to kill me! They are killing me in the water!" She thought her teacher’s were purposely wanting her to drown. I reassured her that it would be better the next day, and it was. She ended up having a wonderful experience and loves to jump off the diving board. She can swim pretty good on her own and passed level 2!  She won’t be completely solid until after level 3 which we are proud to say she will be appropriately ready for next time! Before you know it, she’ll be teaching her "illiterate when it comes to swimming" mom!

I will admit and I am seriously impressed with the talent and skill that those swimming children possess. I really might have to sign myself up with them next time.

Sweet and Sassy

Lily is good mix of a little bit sassy with a whole lot of sweetness. Once in a while she will pull out the drama, but usually we find her being a peacemaker. She really likes to play with all of her siblings and is a good friend to them. Being in the middle benefits her to be close enough in age to both sisters and brothers. I appreciate her thoughtfulness and caring nature.  Whenever she writes notes, everyone in the family is a recipient….whenever she prays for someone in the family — the rest of the names are close to follow. She is very inclusive and careful to not have anyone feel left out.

Her sassy side gives her the spunk we love and the determination to accomplish things she thinks are difficult. We just love her.

That’s My Girl

First Place

Lily was quite the trooper today, it was time for the 1 mile run again with her school.  It was so fun as I pulled up and saw her class walking over to the high school, she looked back and yelled, "It’s my Dad".  She then reached out and held my hand all the way to the high school.  She is a fun little girl, she seemed nervous for the run but still very excited.

They gave her her number and lined them up at the starting line, she said she wanted me to run with her so I did.  It seemed to me like I was holding her back because she just kept going, she kept saying, "lets pass them" and before we knew it we were ahead of all of them.  For the last lap she really turned on the heat and almost lost me.  She ended up taking first place and i was just happy as can be with her.  She didn’t give up and she was so happy for her friends to finish and cheered them on as well. Good Job Lily.

On your marks…

An Elephant and Lily

What do the two have in common, they never forget.

Last night as we read scriptures with the family Lily somehow, I can’t even remember how, was offended because she was cut off in the middle of her scripture.  She locked up and wouldn’t calm down until far after the reading time was over.  So tonight as we were getting ready for FHE she was in charge of reading the scripture to open the mtg with, I couldn’t believe it when she chose to share the exact verse she was asked to read last night.  Now that is stubborn to the max, she didn’t forget that she was cut off and she wanted to have her chance to finish what she had started.  She is one of a kind.

She is kind of like someone else we know. Stubborn for the good is great, we just have to mold it a little. “If you don’t stand for something you’ll fall for anything” Keep up the reading of scriptures Lily.

A note from her teacher

This is one of the many positive comments her teacher has to say about this special little gal. This kind of feed back can sure make a parent smile, not because we did anything special, but because she is “wonderful” all on her own! We are proud that Lily chooses to be her best self at school. When she makes her mind up about something there is no stopping her – even when it comes to being good at school!

She also had to share a game that we played when we were kids – she did “bubblegum, bubblegum” and “thimble”.

Lily was suppose to tell her class about a tradition – So of course I tapped into the turquoise jewelry thing. Remember my blog abouth that?

Love one Another

We had FHE tonight on loving one another, Lily is always full of love and surprises us all. She made little notes after wards and secretly handed them to each of us. She is a very thoughtful little girl. I was touched even more when she gave one extra note to Mom and asked her to read it to JT when he wakes up. Thanks Lily for being in our family! We love you too.

I always kept little notes like those to read when I felt discouraged or less loved by my kids, so I could get them out and read them and remember the love.
