Apple Art starts with A

Ollie is getting the hang of making some of the letters in her name and is thrilled! After much anticipation, Olivia began her first experience with Playgroup this past Wednesday. A few mom’s in my neighborhood banned together to give our kiddies a little day of fun. We met at our house first so we got to talk about the letter “A” and apples. We had fun and the two hours we were together flew by quickly! The crowd favorite was making apple heads (as pictured). It is fun to see Olivia growing and learning. This playgroup will be a fun first step to many more days of learning fun. The girls are going to rotate through each other’s houses every Wednesday for this learning adventure!

Look who turned 3!

Pretty little lady with her chosen pink heart birthday cake with sprinkles. Here she is – the newly turned 3 year old, miss Olivia Michele Parker. She had a great and fun day and enjoyed her moments in the spotlight. Mason, Lex, and Lily were sure to remind her of what a special day it was because of her. We sure love her.

Our family went on a bike ride up Summer’s Hill (8.5 miles round trip). Ollie liked riding in the bike trailer with JT and Lex. Mason’s bike tire went flat after the first 1/2 mile and Alexis was happy to lend hers to Mason. Stephen pushed us forward through the weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. I was happy to catch up with Mason and join him at the top. Once we were all there we stopped for a family photo in the field of wheat…the clouds were such a beautiful contrast with the wheat.

Olivia also got to go get a happy meal from McDonalds for lunch with her dad and Mason. She was hoping for a cute Polly Pocket, but when they got there they found that they only had Star Wars toys.

Later, we invited friends and family over to help us celebrate with a hot dog roast and cotton candy. Olivia loved all of the cards and gifts she received – thank you for thinking of and loving her!

Three years can go by so quickly. It is fun to think back on all of the joyful and fun times that Olivia has brought to our family. She is one special lady!

This is Olivia’s cute little friend, Ellie.

Stephen had her sit in the tractor bucket to blow out her candles.

Having her cake and eating it too.

This here my friends, is a crazy, pregnant, canning queen! She amazes me.

Let the cotton candy begin.

Tanner Puzey grew a quick beard for the party…then he got stung 4 times by some wasps. ouch.

Ashlyn (Tanner’s sister) also got a sting. Yikes.

Little Brooke got one too – right by her eye. Double yeowee. Olivia was so excited to have her friends, Brookey and Ellie, come to her party.

Love this picture of Kate.

Love in my tummy…

Sticky/Dirty Fingers!

Birthday Morning Pleasures

We can have fun and do hard things.

Olivia learned how to make her fingers say “3” and has been practicing for this big day!

Free tractor rides were given.

Tongue Twisted

Without trying to we have created a tongue twister! Try saying Lexi, Lily, Livvy fast, or Lex, Lil, Liv. It isn’t working out well for me especially! I had a crazy notion to start calling Olivia by a different nickname to lessen the twist on my tongue. The poor girl answers to Lex and Lil – it’s amazing she knows what her name is.

SO – I need ideas. If Olivia were in your family what would you call her? Ollie or O? I need ideas?!

Let’s call her “Ola”, just kidding. That’s how to say hi in Portuguese, or Spanish. We did the same thing with Stephen, Stacie, and Stephanie. But we still call Paul, John some times. It’s difficult.

How about Opa. O-pah for O. Parker. Good luck. As long as she feels your love, I’ll bet she’ll adapt to any loving moniker.

Using Words

So my last entry about Olivia wasn’t the most optimistic, but it had been a long few months. I am happy to report that Olivia is making a great comeback. We only had to spend one day of calmly taking her to “Uh-Oh” time and explaining that it is inappropriate to scream for things. While going through this she would scream and then get in control and almost in a whisper explain in her words what she needed. This pattern only had to happen about five times before she realized it was much easier to use words to get what she needs. She has been waking up with a smile and is eager to help. She even asked Mason if she could help him unload the dishwasher, Mason thought he had struck gold!

We have had a few set backs but the future looks promising!

Last night Olivia tried to feed the turtle (who was just released back into the wild today) a little too much food by dumping half of the package in the water. Everyone had gone on a bike ride and I was really worried about the little fella. You know me, scared of any moving creature. I started explaining to Olivia that she would have to get the turtle out so he wouldn’t get sick. She tried to get him out, but was too short to bend down into the container. I was trying to visualize myself picking the turtle up and muster up the courage, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I looked around and found something I could use to get prop him on…I put it in the water and was successful in getting him out. Olivia’s job was to watch the turtle, Fred, so he wouldn’t get away while I dumped out the water. Without explaining further, it was quite a production.

I am grateful for Olivia and that she is brave around animals. She rescued me from having to touch a cat last year too! Phew!!!! One of these days I will overcome my phobia! Until then, I’m staying close to Livvy.

Trying Times

Olivia has had some “trying two” moments for let’s say about two months! She is such a cutie, but has been trained to scream for what she wants. Hope she is prepared for the winds of change that are coming. It’s time to nip this in the bud! She has had trouble pronounciating a lot of her words and I know this contributes to her craziness. It is frustrating to not be understood, we will keep trying on that end of it.

On the other hand, she can be so sweet. One morning I saw her this week laying next to JT and stroking his head and tummy so gently and humming in his ear. This morning she woke up with a big smile and said, “My daddy is here”. It didn’t last long when I had to break the news that dad won’t be here until tomorrow. She loved seeing the monkey’s at the zoo and just started laughing when she saw the monkey swinging on the poles and loved showing me the baby ducks.

Wish us luck in the months ahead…

Band Aides to the Rescue!

Friday night Olivia was out on the swing set. Lily gave her an underdog that went bad. She hit her head on one of the posts. While there wasn’t a speck of blood – my eyes could only detect a small scratch – she insisted that a band aid would make it all better. She went to our band aide location and here is what she came out looking like a few minutes later.

The Violin Teacher

Olivia is so funny. For the past few weeks, during the day and on into the night, she has been playing with my violin sculptures (there is a big and little one). She treats them as if he is her baby, claiming he has a poopy bum and even trying to feed him “like mom does”. She gets dish towels out of the kitchen for his blanket. He has even said the prayer with us and she also tried to take him to bed. I told her he is pretty hard and it might hurt if she rolls over on him. He has become quite the friend to her as he listens to her secrets. When I asked what his name was she said, “the violin teacher”.
