Super Glue to the Rescue

Saturday evening our family was all dispersed doing different things when I (the mother) heard screams of pain coming from the kitchen in the form of almost 2 year old JT. I ran quickly and entered the kitchen to find JT all alone standing in the middle of the kitchen with blood oozing down his face and very distraught! I then became panicked because the blood was pumping quickly and I couldn’t tell how badly the damage was. I noticed that their was a kitchen drawer pulled out and I assume he fell off of the counter top and hit the corner of the pulled out drawer to earn this gouge in his head. We gave him a double dose of ibuprofen and Dr. Parker went to work, giving us all a job to do. Mason retrieved the Super Glue and Lily and Olivia said a prayer. Lex and I got clean cloths and hydrogen peroxide. It didn’t take long to see how much love JT has being part of our family.  The wound was sealed shut with the Super Glue and he has been great ever since!

Side Note: I am developing a fond affection for Super Glue…it has been the band aide many times as we have mended various wounds. Super Glue is our friend…especially JT’s friend at the moment.

Shucks! That’s too bad, JT. I’m so glad your family was able to help you get better. Hugs & kisses to the cute little boy at the Parker’s house. You better be careful and safe, little Joshey. XOXOXOXO Grandma B. loves you.

Where there’s a will…there is JT

JT is a funny, cute, talkative, crazy, & sometimes destructive little boy full of determination and persistance.

We love him and are generally found laughing at him and his ways…BUT sometimes we get tired at night trying to keep up with him and his business! I love his age so much – I look forward to him waking up each day and seeing his cute smile. I also look forward to bedtime after a tiring day of chasing. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

JT can say many words: He calls Lexi (Exi), Mason (Meesown), Lily (can’t really say it "L’s" are hard and she has 2), Olivia (via). We love it when he walks around after someone toots and tells everyone "_____ is poopy". He did this today in Nursery. He told his teacher he was poopy and she brought him to me. I went to go change him and he was dry as a bone – I think he must have just tooted. Funny boy. He loves to talk very loudly too by the way which makes Sacrament meeting fun :). He almost always puts a "y" or "ies" on the end of his words: panties (aka – pants), sockeys, shirty, spoony, etc..

JT loves to build with blocks and then knock them over. He is pretty good and throwing them at people too – we are working with him on that one. He is into matchbox cars and any toy that makes noise. His favortie bedtime songs are "I am a child of God" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." I noticed that he does not like to have his socks taken off or gloves if he has them on. He also doesn’t like it if one shoe falls off and the other one is still on – it makes him very stressed. He like his pairs in pairs I guess. He loves to play with mine or Stephen’s iphones! He is great at unlocking it and knows just what buttons to push to get what he wants, he is a fast learner. This iphone fetish has come in handy on many occasions when we need to keep his mind busy at a choir concert or doctor office. The toddler applications are my favorite downloads!

He is a great eater and will eat most anything that is put in front of him. He is also good at playing with his food. At the end of most meals he has dumped his drink onto his food.

And last but not least, because it happens over and over throughout the day – he loves to use a barstool to get what he needs. We raise independent children around here!

JT (the young scientist)

JT is a very active 18 monther…he really enjoys exploring his surrounding and is becoming opinionated when removed from situations he finds himself him. He is a regular visitor of "Stephen’s side of the garage". When I get him out of his carseat after an errand run he b-lines it to the grease section of our garage. With a smile like his he can finagle himself out of almost any situation – except these two.

experiment no.1 – the pits

Stephen’s Aunt Dot shared some yummy plums with us and I was excited about a healthy snack option for my children on their first day home of Harvest Break. I washed them up and placed them in a large silver bowl. I walked out of the room for a quick second and when I came back I found JT standing on a barstool that was pushed up to the counter. There were pits thrown on the floor – he figured out that they didn’t taste so good. He had a plum in each hand and one in his mouth. In the process of taking these photos he chucked 3 half eaten plums on the floor. Meanwhile Olivia and Lily come in and squash them on the floor – leaving a very sticky mess!

experiment no. 2 – melding plastic

I still hadn’t forgiven JT for the sticky mess (actually I hadn’t even gotten to mop the floor) before he struck again. He chooses the kitchen to perform his experiments. Saturday morning before the youth triathlon I decided to bake some bran muffins for the family for a nice breakfast. I preheated the oven and started filling the muffin tins when I began to smell a very potent plastic smell. I opened the bottom oven to find two former ice cream cups turned into a liquid.  This was a moment that I had to kick myself. I have seen him throw things in the oven day after day and kept telling myself that I needed to check the oven before baking – duh! Hard lesson learned. Mason thought it was awesome of course and Stephen chipped it all out – lucky for him, the upper oven was available without any waiting plastic to deter my muffin baking.

I think you have a smart little guy on your hands. The oven thing reminds me a crayon incident we had at our house. You have got to love it!

Sounds like a healthy happy toddler to me…busy, running around mom too! I am getting nervous for Josie, she really gets busier every minute. Sounds like Owen, Josie, and JT would have a blast…maybe it is good they don’t all live in the same house.

He is an artist too. I remember when Jana cooked popcorn in a plastic bowl in the oven. Every time you use the oven for the next few months you will smell J.T. Luckily he is cute.

It stinks

The missing diaper caper

It stinks – literally… Today we had a funny thing happen. I picked up JT because I smelled something unpleasing after breakfast. I picked him up in his blanket sleeper and he felt skinner around the bum area. I was puzzled and unzipped to investigate. The picture below is what I found! I really made me giggle, which really made Olivia giggle, which also made JT start to laugh. It was great – guess his overnight urine supply was weighing him down.

It stinks that on Monday JT took a good shiner to the head. We were at the optometrist finalizing Alexis’ new glass frames when he ran up to us, tripped and head butted the desk with much force! It blew up instantly and troubled him, me, Alexis, and all of Dr. Hatch’s staff. He was crying really hard as you can imagine when he was brought a glass of water and a sucker – he quieted as quickly as he had started and was good to go. He did touch it a couple of times on the way home and said,"Owee".

It stinks that on …. Sunday night we had another crazy caper concerning this fella. All of our company had departed after Olivia’s B-Day party and the older kids were preparing for bed. I wondered where JT had traveled off to and ended up finding him in the mud room bathroom. As I assessed the situation I began to scream at the top of my lungs. I saw an opened toilet with #1 and #2 duties in it (another tidbit, there was no trace of toilet paper), a cup on the floor – no doubt retrieved from the tub, a skiff of fecal matter on my green shag rug, and moisture coming down JT’s chin! This is one of those moments when I am grateful for my husband! He rolled his sleeves up and took care of every last thing. I was in a paranoid fit, worried that JT was going to get EColi. Rest assured he has been just fine the past few days in that department.

It stinks that JT isn’t an infant anymore.  JT has hit another milestone and right of passage: Nursery! He has been going the last couple of weeks because he is now 18 months old. He has done very well with the transition, only fussy for the first few moments and then is easily distracted. WHEW – that is a relief. As much as I am sad that he is growing so quickly it is fun to watch him discover the world and the things in it. He just has one of the cutest smiles that I have ever seen, you need to see it for yourself in person. He is also really great at understanding and following directions. His family are his favorite friends still – especially Dad and Lexi. He is very independent and will find a way to tangibly acquire anything he desires – doesn’t matter how hard or high. Yes is has monkey genes inherited from his father most likely. Still loves tractors and helping me mow the lawn. All in all he is a very easy going little dude and we just love him like crazy.

No, that isn’t a moon boot under JT’s right leg – it’s his night time diaper.

Makes me sad to just look at it again.

Man that’s big!

I’m a Big Kid Now

No, JT is not potty trained yet! He is just a little monkey. He is climbing things like crazy. Today I glanced up from doing something and he was on the top of a 3′ scaffolding! He was so proud of himself – he gave me the biggest smile he could.

Another monkey experience happened on Sunday morning. He knows his dad stashes treats in his closet (usually whopppers – which JT can say by the way). This week he had mini Heath bars. JT was able to climb up the shelves in his closet and sniffed them out all on his own. (The pictures are from my other camera and I still need to download them, pictures coming soon!)

He is almost 17 months old – one more month til nursery. He will be happy there and we will be happy to take him! It is tough to keep a monkey on your lap for 3 hours. We have actually had comments from people in our ward about the activity level at our bench. We pretty much feel like jungle gymns between JT and Olivia. I will admit that I’d rather have them loving life than sitting back to watch, although once in a while would be nice!

He is a cute little boy who loves life and the people in his life. He just learned to say apple, As I was teaching him to say apple and cow he really looked at me intently and then smiled his magical smile and laughed at me. I don’t know what that means, I am feeling a little self conscience! He loves to say the word "ball" espeically at church when he sees the basket ball hoops in the gym. We know he is thristy when he says "tink". He also pulled "pee boo" out the other day when he looked up from under his blanket to play peek a boo. I love to hear him say "soo soo soo" for shoe.

He still loves to go on bike rides (towed in the trailer), drive through the tractor store, have his dad hold him, and suck on his "kinky" (pacifier) when he goes to bed.

Tractor Boy

Here he is at our friend’s house…the old heavy duty tractor is identical to the one I use to drive at my Grandpa Beattie’s house. Such Nostalgia!

We are raising another boy who is passionate about his tractors! He even talks tractors in his sleep. It is fun to see this inborn love come out without too much prompting.

baby tOOth Decay

The other day as JT was walking around being busy I noticed something when he smiled: THIS! It made me laugh. Apparently somebody left one of these beads laying around, he popped it in his mouth and then bit it down over the top of his tooth. It was stuck on there very well and needed to be pried off. What a funny boy.
